Report a Light Trespass Problem

Light from a neighbor or nearby business shining onto your property? Here are the steps residents can take to raise attention to noncompliant lighting.

1

Talk to the business or property owner

Visit them and let them know that their new lights appear to be noncompliant and how they are affecting you. It is helpful to assume that they are unaware of the issues of light trespass. Suggest that they visit our website for more information, and let them know they can request a free lighting consultation from the Kerr County Friends of the Night Sky.

2

If the property is inside the Kerrville city limits, report it to the City

Properties inside the city limits are subject to Kerrville’s outdoor lighting ordinance (Chapter 26, Buildings and Building Regulations, Article X, Outdoor Lighting). You can report noncompliant outdoor lighting through the City’s Code Enforcement Division.

3

Submit photos of the light trespass to DarkSky Texas

Photos of light trespass can be submitted on the DarkSky Texas website. Your name and email will not be shared.

4

Register your support for the 2027 Light Trespass Legislation

Proposed legislation for the 2027 Texas session would give Texans legal standing against excessive light trespass. Let your State Representative and Senator know you support it.
